The UK Coastguard and also RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) was contacted to offer support to a hurt crewmember aboard the Maltese- flagged chemical vessel Kongo Star on Sunday, March 7. The 13,000 dwt vessel was secured in Brodick Bay on the eastern shore of the Island of Arran in Scotland.

The Belfast Coastguard terminal collaborated the information of the medevac after obtaining the phone call for support from the vessel. Volunteers from the Troon and also Arran RNLI lifeboat terminals were sent off to aid the vessel in addition to a Coastguard search and also rescue helicopter. The specialized volunteers of both lifeboat teams reported they got on their means within 6 mins of obtaining the phone call from the Coastguard.

“When we arrived the rescue helicopter was already on site,” created the Arran lifeboat team explaining the rescue. “Two crew members from Troon lifeboat boarded the tanker to assist with the transfer of the casualty to the helicopter whilst we remained on site to provide assistance if required.”

With the support of both volunteers from the lifeboat, the hurt seafarer was ready and afterwards taken aboard the helicopter. The helicopter delivered them straight to the health center. “Once the casualty was safely winched on board the helicopter and heading to hospital, the lifeboats were stood down by Belfast Coastguard,” claimed the group from Troon.

“Our call-outs often involve a multi-agency response as we work together to ensure the best outcome for all. With summer approaching, and hopefully a relaxation in restrictions, I’m sure we’ll meet again soon, whether that be as part of a planned training exercise, or as part of a rescue,” ended the group from Arran.
