Royal Navy Nuclear Sub Damaged in Collision with Commercial Vessel
LONDON, July 21 (Reuters)– A British nuclear Astute- course submarine was associated with a “glancing collision” with a seller vessel off the shore of the peninsula of Gibraltar on Wednesday, Britain’s Ministry of Defence stated.
“The submarine suffered some external damage but there is absolutely no damage to her nuclear plant and no member of the ship’s company was injured in the incident,” the Ministry of Defence stated in a declaration.
The submarine, HMS Ambush, was not lugging nuclear tools as it is not component of Britain’s ballistic projectile submarine fleet, a ministry representative stated.
Britain stated the accident happened whilst the submarine was immersed and performing a training workout with an instant examination currently being performed.
“There are no safety concerns,” the Ministry of Defence stated.
The Astute- course, which are based at Britain’s Clyde marine base in Scotland, are Britain’s biggest and most effective assault submarines.
On Monday, legislators elected to restore Britain’s aging nuclear tools system, a multi billion-pound job considered vital to preserving the nation’s standing as a globe power.
