MARAD has introduced that the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Advisory Council will conduct its first public assembly on Monday, August 7 on the USMMA campus in Kings Point N.Y.
MARAD introduced the names of the inaugural members of the council earlier this 12 months.
The 13 inaugural members, 5 of whom are USMMA graduates, together with one member from the Class of 2022, are main consultants drawn from academia, the maritime business and maritime labor, the senior ranks of the U.S. navy, and federal entities —together with the Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, Naval War College, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
Their areas of experience embrace administering establishments of upper studying; sexual assault and sexual harassment prevention and response; infrastructure and amenities administration; and variety, fairness, and inclusion.
The council will present unbiased recommendation and proposals on bettering the academy, together with the areas of curriculum growth and coaching packages; variety, fairness, and inclusion; sexual assault prevention and response; infrastructure upkeep and redevelopment; midshipmen well being and welfare; governance and administrative insurance policies; and different issues.
As a part of this work, the council will develop methods and proposals to deal with the problems recognized within the 2021 National Academy of Public Administration’s Comprehensive Assessment of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy report.
