
Baltic Dry Index Breaks 700
July 8 (Reuters) – The Baltic Exchange’s fundamental sea freight index, which tracks charges for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose additional on Friday as a result of robust demand for panamax vessels.
The general index, which components in charges for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize delivery vessels, was up 4 factors, or 0.57 %, at 703 factors.
The capesize index was down 6 factors, or 0.6 %, at 1,002 factors.
Average each day earnings for capesizes, which generally transport 150,000-tonne cargo corresponding to iron ore and coal, fell $39 to $7,149.
The panamax index was up 13 factors, or 1.67 %, at 792 factors.
Average each day earnings for panamaxes, which normally carry coal or grain cargo of about 60,000-70,000 tonnes, elevated $96 to $6,327.
