Amazing Space Photos from America’s Favorite Astronaut (and Maritime Academy Grad)

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly is returning to earth later in the present day after spending an epic 12 months in house aboard the International Space Station.

Now you might not know this however Scott Kelly really began his profession attending the State University of New York’s Maritime College, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science diploma in Electrical Engineering and a United States Coast Guard Third Mate’s license. After commencement, Kelly went on to pursue a profession as a naval aviator with the U.S. Navy, ultimately retiring from the service in 2012. He was chosen by NASA in April 1996 and made his house flight debut in 1999.

On his newest mission, which launched in March 2015, Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko spent a complete of 340 days aboard ISS to assist perceive how the human physique reacts and adapts to the tough surroundings of house with the intention to scale back dangers to crew members as NASA prepares to advance house journey past low Earth orbit.
