Vroon to Lay-Up A Dozen Offshore Vessels
Netherlands-based Vroon Offshore Services will probably be laying up 12 offshore vessels “as a direct result of the ongoing slump in offshore oil and gas activities”, the corporate has introduced.
The twelve vessels will embody 5 platform provide vessels and 7 emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs). A lot of older ERRVs may also be divested for recycling functions, the corporate mentioned.
The lay-ups are anticipated to happen “from the fourth quarter onwards”.
“We deeply regret the corresponding reduction in on-board positions and the consequences this has for our colleagues,” Vroon mentioned in an announcement saying the lay-ups.
The firm added: “The current market conditions, which have created low vessel-utilisation levels, require us to substantially reduce operational costs on unemployed vessels. Rationalisation of our operational fleet and cost structure started earlier this year and will remain a priority going forward. Vroon Offshore Services’ commitment to safe and flawless service delivery to clients is unremitting, and the company will continue expanding its market coverage.”
Vroon is the most recent in an ever-growing variety of offshore vessel proprietor/operators to announce lay-ups amid the continued weak market pushed by the crash in oil costs over the previous 12 months.
Vroon Offshore Services operates roughly 90 vessels spanning platform-supply vessels (PSV), anchor-handling tug provide (AHTS) vessels, emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRV) and subsea-support vessels (SSV). Its operations are primarily focussed within the North Sea, Mediterranean and Southeast Asia.
