Sulphur-Laden Bulk Carrier Hard Aground Off Texas

The Coast Guard is working with state and native companions in response to a bulk service loaded with sulfur that ran aground within the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday whereas transiting outbound from Neches Industrial Park in Beaumont, Texas.

The Coast Guard experiences that watchstanders at Vessel Traffic Control Port Arthur obtained a name at roughly 1:30 p.m. from the pilot aboard the 615-foot Panamanian-flagged MV Jian Qiang, stating they ran onerous aground roughly 1 mile from the westernmost jetty, exterior buoys 33 and 34, within the Gulf of Mexico.

There had been no experiences of great injury, damage or air pollution discharge.

The Coast Guard, the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the vessel’s house owners are working collectively and offering oversight for the coordination and improvement of a plan to free the vessel.
