Asia-Europe Container Shipping Rates Skyrocket

COPENHAGEN, Jan 26 (Reuters) – Shipping freight charges for transporting containers from ports in Asia to Northern Europe jumped 24.6 p.c to $1,256 per 20-foot container (TEU) within the week ended on Friday, knowledge from the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index confirmed.

The rise in freight charges on the world’s busiest route was a results of a basic fee will increase introduced by the worldwide chief Maersk Line and different main container delivery corporations earlier in January.

In the week to Friday, container freight charges rose 7.4 p.c from Asia to ports within the Mediterranean, fell 1.2 p.c to ports on the U.S. West Coast and have been unchanged to ports on the U.S. East Coast.
