APL Cuts Fleet’s Carbon Dioxide Emissions Nearly in Half

APL, the container transport unit of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines, says it has decreased its fleet’s carbon dioxide emissions by 45.5% in 2015 in comparison with 2009 ranges.

APL says the achievement marks the corporate’s highest carbon dioxide emissions discount within the final six years, attributing the reducting to enhancements in operational effectivity, fleet and voyage optimization, technical enhancements, and extra fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly fleet of vessels.

“APL has steadily reduced its year-on-year carbon emissions and this demonstrates the company’s unyielding focus on sustainable shipping,” mentioned Kenneth Glenn, APL President. “APL is dedicated to sound environmental stewardship and will persevere in our efforts to live out our commitments to protecting the environment.”

APL is a member of BSR Clean Cargo Working Group, collaborating with different stakeholders to supervise the group’s method in driving enhancements within the world transport of products, particularly efficiency measurement and reporting, in addition to promotion of environmentally accountable practices. APL’s carbon dioxide emissions information was verified by Lloyd’s Register Group based on the CCWG verification protocol and ISO14064-3:2006 normal.

In 2015, APL obtained the Environmental Shipping Index award from HAROPA, the French port of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris for its exemplary efficiency in lowering air emissions that exceeds the emission requirements of the International Maritime Organisation. Previously, it additionally received the Port Metro Vancouver Blue Circle Award for excellence in air emissions discount; and the 75 Green Supply Chain Partners award by Inbound Logistics journal for attaining its carbon emissions goal.

APL’s announcement comes the transport trade is below elevated stress to cut back carbon emissions from the worldwide fleet.
