
Baltic Dry Index Breaks 400
March 23 (Reuters) – The Baltic Exchange’s primary sea freight index, monitoring charges for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose on Wednesday, supported by firmer charges throughout vessel segments.
The total index that components within the charges for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize transport vessels, was up three factors to 401 factors.
The capesize index rose 10 factors or 5.38 p.c to 196 factors.
Average every day earnings for capesizes, which generally transport 150,000-tonne cargoes reminiscent of iron ore and coal, had been up $11 to $2,005.
The panamax index was up three factors at 458 factors.
Average every day earnings for panamaxes, which normally carry coal or grain cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes, rose $29 to $3,673.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose 4 factors to 468 factors, whereas the handysize index was up two factors at 266 factors. (Reporting by Apeksha Nair in Bengaluru)
