
Baltic Dry Index Falls to Over 3-Year Low

Jan 27 (Reuters)– The Baltic Exchange’s major sea products index was up to its least expensive degree given that April 2016, dragged down by reduced vessels prices throughout groups.
* The Baltic index, which tracks prices for capesize, panamax as well as supramax vessels shuttling completely dry mass assets, went down 11 factors, or 2.0%, to 546– its least expensive in over 3 years.
* The capesize index dropped 30 factors, or 18.2%, to 135.
* The index registered its 32nd successive session of losses, touching its least expensive degree given that April 3 in 2015.
* Average day-to-day revenues for capesizes, which normally deliver 170,000-180,000 tonne freights consisting of iron ore as well as coal, dropped $140 to $4,632.
* “The dry bulk shipping market will soften in the first quarter of 2020 before rebounding due to growth in Brazilian exports and very low fleet growth,” Randy Giveans, vice-president, equity research study at Jefferies stated in a note.
