
Baltic Index Down On Large Vessel Rate Drop
(Reuters) The Baltic Index, the Baltic Exchange’s primary sea products index, monitoring prices for ships bring completely dry mass products, dropped on Thursday on weak capesize, panamax and supramax vessel prices.
The general index, which consider prices for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize delivery vessels, was down 14 factors, or 2.06 percent, at 665 factors.
The capesize index dropped 23 factors, or 2.86 percent, to 780 factors.
Average day-to-day incomes for capesizes, which usually transfer 150,000-tonne freights such as iron ore and coal, were down $193 at $5,530.
The panamax index was down 33 factors, or 4.39 percent, at 719 factors.
Average day-to-day incomes for panamaxes, which generally bring coal or grain freights of concerning 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes, lowered $263 to $5,757.
Among smaller sized vessels, the supramax index dropped 8 indicate 676 factors, while the handysize index climbed 4 indicate 396 factors.
