Cargotec’s MacGregor Inks Major Contract with DSME
MacGregor, a part of Cargotec, has signed a serious contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd in South Korea to produce a variety of Hatlapa deck equipment for ten 172,600m3 liquefied pure fuel (LNG) carriers. MacGregor will ship electrically-driven deck equipment, windlasses and mooring winches, all optimised for operations in very low temperatures. Delivery is deliberate to begin in 2017 and proceed into 2018.
“MacGregor was awarded the contract because it can deliver equipment that complies with the demanding technical requirements of operating in extremely cold conditions,” says Alexander Nürnberg, Vice President for Auxiliary and Machinery Systems enterprise at MacGregor. “As part of this project, we have developed new technology suitable for use in extreme ambient temperatures as low as minus 52°C.”
The LNG carriers will function within the Yamal fuel subject on the Yamal Peninsula within the Russian Arctic. “When operating in these challenging conditions, the highest quality equipment is essential,” provides Mr Nürnberg.
