Coast Guard: Oil Tanker Hit Sailboats AND Ran Aground – Here’s Incident Video

The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Piscataqua River close to the Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine border. The Coast Guard stated the ship struck three moored sailboats and ran aground close to Goat Island Ledge. The sailboats had been unmanned on the time and no accidents had been reported.
Salvage divers arrived Thursday afternoon to evaluate the extent of the injury to the Chem Venus and located a tear measuring 3 ft by 10 ft within the bow of the tanker, in line with the Coast Guard.
The proprietor of the Chem Venus is predicted to develop a salvage plan which might be reviewed and permitted by the Coast Guard.
