Norway’s Havyard AS said on Friday that 17 people associated with the New Havyard Ship Technology AS shipyard had tested positive for COVID-19 since its September announcement that it would be subject to a temporary halt of activities as a result of finding four proven cases of infection by the virus.
As of Friday some 200 people had been tested. To prevent any further spread of the virus and to gain control of the situation, Hyllestad municipality on Friday, pursuant to Norway’s Infection Control Act, decided to keep the yard business closed until October 10, 2020. That closure may be extended.
“For the vessels that are being outfitted at the yard, it is foreseeable that the closure may lead to delayed deliveries.” says Havyard. “Any delay will depend on the extent of the shutdown and what measures that can be implemented to make up for the lost production time.”
