Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) and Fire Island Ferries report that building of Fire Island Maid, the ferry firm’s latest ferry, is full. The vessel has obtained its U.S. Coast Guard COI and is now in service with the ferry firm, which supplies passenger and freight delivery companies from Bay Shore, New York to a number of communities alongside the Great South Bay of Fire Island.
Designed by EBDG and built by Metal Shark at its Bayou La Batre, Ala., shipyard, the 70 x 23 foot multi-purpose automobile ferry includes a metal hull and aluminum superstructure and is provided with a hydraulic ramp for loading and unloading heavy tools.
“We are excited to add Fire Island Maid to our fleet of vessels,” stated Dave Anderson, basic supervisor of the ferry firm. “EBDG listened and provided a more efficient structure and arrangement. I know this new ferry will make a difference for our passengers and shipping customers.”
The bolstered deck is able to supporting totally loaded concrete vans and basic cargo as much as 100,000 kilos. The aft pilot home accommodates two crew, with as much as six passengers remaining of their autos.
The ferry is powered by twin Cummins QSL9 Tier 3 marine engines with ZF Marine CruiseCommand management system and Twin Disc transmissions. Electrical energy is supplied by a Cummins Onan MDK generator.
The vessel’s lightship weight is 160,000 kilos so it may be hauled with Fire Island Ferries’ current elevate.
