Groningen, Netherlands, based mostly quick sea delivery specialist Longship has positioned an order with Atlas Shipyard in Turkey for 4 methanol-ready newbuilds that it says will ship a discount in gas consumption of about 45% in contrast with present comparable measurement vessels.
The excessive cubic design options one absolutely box-shaped maintain with an 81.9 meter clear hatch opening in size. Well suited to break bulk and undertaking cargoes, the vessels are capable of sail in open-top situation
The design has been developed by Longship in cooperation along with Dutch naval architect consultancy Ankerbeer BV.
The extremely low gas consumption is achieved by a mixture of the hull design and a diesel-electric propulsion system that makes use of two low revolution engines to make sure environment friendly combustion, which reduces emissions and is compliant with the EU Stage V requirements relevant to non-road cellular equipment (NRMM).
“It is our corporate goal to substantially cut emissions and carbon intensity as an industrial carrier providing bespoke logistical solutions to our clients,” says Longship CEO Øyvind Sivertsen. “With these units we will meet requirements well before they become mandatory to the shipping industry”.
The hybrid propulsion system powers two azimuth thrusters. with low rpm and huge diameter mounted propellers and will be retrofitted to run on different fuels. On supply, slated for spring 2024, the ships will maintain the category notation “Prepared for Methanol C.”
