Maersk Containership Runs Aground Near Fremantle, Western Australia
A Maersk containership spent just a few hours aground early Saturday morning close to the doorway to Fremantle Harbour in Western Australia.
According to the Fremantle Port Authority, the MV Maersk Garonne turned caught in smooth sand about 500 meters off South Mole because it was getting into Fremantle Inner Harbour at about 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
The vessel was pulled free by tugs at about 8:30 a.m. and was anticipated to go to anchor at Gage Roads for inspection by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, the port authority mentioned.
Initial experiences indicated that there aren’t any accidents or harm to the vessel.
The Australian Transport Safety Board has launched an investigation and can launch a last report into the incident.
