Maersk Line Planning Freight Rate Hike for Asia to Europe Route
COPENHAGEN, Oct 20 (Reuters) – The world’s largest container transport firm, Maersk Line, plans to lift spot freight charges sharply on essential routes from ports in Asia to ports in northern Europe with impact from Nov. 1, the corporate stated on Tuesday.
Spot charges for twenty foot equal unit containers (TEU) will rise by $1,000, Maersk Line wrote in a letter to clients.
The deliberate value hike corresponds to a 429 p.c improve from present ranges if applied efficiently. Container charges usually rise in large jumps introduced by the transport corporations earlier than regularly easing again over time.
According to the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index, twenty foot charges from Asia to Europe stood at $233 final week, which is broadly seen as a loss-making stage. (Reporting by Ole Mikkelsen; modifying by Sabina Zawadzki)
