MetalCraft Marine Inc. (MCM) has been awarded a $31 million contract from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) as a part of its Long-Range Interceptor (LRI) III program. This is the second contract MCM has obtained for the design and construct of the 11-meter high-speed Interceptor patrol boat.
“Our previous Interceptor for the Coast Guard, the 11M LRI II, proved to be a very successful platform,” says MCM contracts supervisor Bob Clark. “The LRI II was the first design to successfully navigate the recovery bay at the transom of the Coast Guard’s flagship 418 foot National Security Cutter (NSC) at up to 12 knots. The LRI can operate over the horizon from the mothership and can travel 236 nautical miles on any given mission on plane giving it a very wide swath to patrol after the mothership’s electronics have detected something suspicious.”
All gear for the LRI have to be reliable and sturdy to fulfill excessive environments because the boats routinely function in sea state 5 (13-17 ft) situations at planing speeds. The boat has a closed or open cabin association that enables for open operation in good climate situations or totally closed in unhealthy climate. Each port and starboard gunner has a 180-degree arc of fireside.
Features embrace:
- Twin Cummins 6.7L diesels that energy two Kongsberg A29 waterjets to a 40-knot pace
- Raymarine and FLIR superior navigation system
Shockwave and Shox suspension seating - David Clark Co. wired crew communications system to permit crews to keep up communication with the LRI or the MSC (army sealift command) mothership for directions by way of wi-fi to VHF (very excessive frequency) connectivity
- The LRI additionally has a portable ballistics panel package by Safariland that’s designed to be mounted to the boat’s ahead/aspect sections in eight minutes for particular high-threat missions and it could defend a five-person crew from a 200° subject of fireside. The open cabin association permits for crew to offer return fireplace over a 180-degree arc of fireside on each port and starboard sides with good crew safety.
The LRI is produced in sizes from 7 to twenty meters (23 to 65 ft). It has had vast success with different army and police forces throughout North America and is used for a number of operations together with drug interception, Search and Rescue, and crew switch.
In addition to the LRI, MetalCraft Marine is presently constructing one other contract for the USCG for shipboard 7-meter Interceptors
