According to the Guardia di Finanza, the drug bust all began about three weeks in the past when the Italian authorities obtained a tip that the medicine had been being smuggled onboard the cargo ship, resulting in a boarding of the vessel because it sailed via the Sardinia Channel.

The Guardia di Finanza estimates that the medicine seized have a avenue worth of about 200 million euro, or about US $227 million {dollars}.

The captain and eight crew members, all Syrian nationals, have been arrested.

According to AIS knowledge from MarineTraffic.com, the MV Jupiter has been within the Cagliari since October 1 and the ship sailed from the port of Vigo in Spain.
