MPCC will start receiving supplies of synthetic MDO next year.

MPCC will begin receiving provides of artificial MDO subsequent 12 months.

Oslo-headquartered MPC Container Ships (OSE: MPCC) has signed an settlement that may see it take deliveries of artificial Marine Diesel Oil (MDO) from Karlsruhe, Germany, based mostly INERATEC GmbH, beginning in 2024.

The artificial MDO will probably be made out of biogenic CO2 and renewable hydrogen and INERATEC says that, because of its drop-in compatibility, artificial MDO can straight exchange standard fossil fuels used as we speak by current vessels.

Early collaboration between e-fuel suppliers and offtakers throughout industries is a crucial issue for scaling up manufacturing volumes and driving decarbonization. With this settlement, MPC Container Ships and INERATEC purpose to kickstart the transition in the direction of carbon impartial, artificial diesel within the transport sector.

MPC Container Ships orders methanol-fueled field ship duo

“While there will be a variety of different fuels in the future, the synthetic MDO produced by INERATEC is of particular relevance as it can be used both in conventional combustion engines on our existing vessels and as pilot fuel for our methanol-powered newbuildings,” stated Constantin Baack, CEO of MPC Container Ships. “As a key building block of the decarbonization of our industry, we expect that green fuels may come to be included as part of vessel hire, in which case it will be vital for MPCC to have a strong relationship with fuel providers.”

“In order to make a sustainable future with e-fuels possible, INERATEC is acquiring partners all around the world,”says Philipp Engelkamp , CCO of INERATEC. “Following projects that target the production of SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), car fuel and sustainable chemicals we are really happy to partner with MPCC to bring a sustainable product into the shipping industry.”

INERATEC has already began the manufacturing part for its pioneer plant in Frankfurt, the place nearly all of the sustainable gas will probably be produced. After the commissioning part it’ll ship as much as 3.5 million liters of SAF, marine diesel and artificial chemical substances to remodel industries. From there, the firm will lead the ramp-up of e-fuel manufacturing at extra websites world-wide.

Founded in 2016, INERATEC is a pioneer in the field of power-to-liquid applications. The firm provides sustainable fuels in addition to chemical merchandise. Modular chemical crops for power-to-X and gas-to-liquid functions use hydrogen from renewable electrical energy and greenhouse gases equivalent to CO2 to supply e-kerosene, CO2-neutral gasoline, clear diesel or artificial waxes, methanol or SNG.
