Industry wants action on Renewable Energy Modernization Rule

On January 30, 2023 BOEM printed the Renewable Energy Modernization Rule NPRM which contained reforms recognized by the Department of the Interior and really useful by trade, together with proposals for incremental funding of decommissioning accounts; extra versatile geophysical and geotechnical survey submission necessities; streamlined approval of meteorological (met) buoys; revised mission verification procedures; reform of BOEM’s renewable vitality public sale course of; and larger readability concerning security necessities.

Now, the American Clean Power Association (ACP), the National Offshore Industries Association (NOIA) and the Business Network for Offshore Wind (BNOW) have submitted to BOEM feedback with the Bureau of Offshore Energy Management (BOEM) urging swift finalization of the rule.

The associations say that, collectively, they signify the capability to ship over 51 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind vitality vital to attain the Administration’s bold offshore wind targets.

“ACP urges swift finalization of the modernization rule so that we can fully realize the potential of our abundant offshore wind resources,” stated Josh Kaplowitz, ACP vp of offshore wind. “The offshore wind industry needs a regulatory structure that reflects how the industry works, and this rule is an important step forward as we work together to harness more domestic clean energy that will reduce pollution, make our country more energy independent, and support local economies.”

ACP says that it helps BOEM’s total targets and agrees with the pressing want to scale back administrative burdens, prices, and uncertainty and to permit extra flexibility in offshore wind improvement. Current laws, largely unchanged since 2009, have lengthy wanted to be up to date to include classes realized during the last 14 years and to help the purpose of delivering reasonably priced, dependable clear vitality to all Americans in an environmentally secure means.
