Sanmar rounded off 2023 with supply of two new heavy-duty tugs to the Directorate General of Coastal Safety at a ceremony attended by main politicians and maritime trade executives.
Built at Sanmar’s Altinova Shipyard within the coronary heart of the Turkish maritime sector, KURTARMA 17 and KURTARMA 18 are each 29.4m lengthy, 13.3m large and have a most draft of 5.75m. They are every powered by two high-speed Caterpillar 3516C principal engines enabling them to realize a formidable towing pressure of 82 tons.
Known as BIGAÇAY Xlll and BIGAÇAY X earlier than being renamed by their new proprietor, the sister tugs are primarily based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar RAstar 2900SX design from Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.
This ASD tugs are constructed with a singular sponsored hull type, confirmed via mannequin and full-scale testing to considerably improve escort towing and seakeeping efficiency.
