Ship Photos of the Day – Broken Down ‘Le Boreal’ Gets Lift Back to Europe
The luxurious cruise ship Le Boreal was loaded onto the deck of the COSCO Heavy Transport ship HLV Kang Sheng Kou in Punta Arenas, Chile this week about two months after the ship was hit by a significant hearth within the Southern Atlantic Ocean.
As gCaptain reported a number of months again, all 347 passengers and crew have been evacuated safely after the fireplace broke out within the engine room of the ship in November 18th whereas underway close to the Falkland Islands. Although the order to desert ship was initially handed off as precautionary by ship proprietor Ponant, British forces, who assisted within the rescue, later described the incident as a “complex” search and rescue operation carried out in troublesome circumstances. At one level, the drifting cruise ship was even in peril of grounding, coming as shut as 3 miles to land.
The ship is believed to be headed to a Fincantieri shipyard in Italy for repairs.
