Overall Situation
- In August 2020, 6 occurrences of heist versus ships were reported in Asia
- No piracy occurrence was reported
- There was no record of kidnapping of staff in the Sulu-Celebes Seas and also waters off Eastern Sabah, Malaysia in August 2020
- However, the kidnapping of staff for ransom money continues to be a significant problem as shown by the Warning provided by ReCAAP ISC on 2 July 20 that 5 Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) participants were intending to carry out kidnapping of staff from ships going by the TawiTawi and also Sabah waters
- ReCAAP ISC is worried concerning the proceeded event of occurrences aboard ships while underway in the Singapore Strait
