Finnish propulsion answer specialist Steerprop has received its first orders for its new Steerprop T product line, particularly designed for tug operations. It has been awarded a contract by Turkey’s Med Marine shipyard to ship the propulsion models for 2 RAscal 2100 harbor tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd.
The Steerprop T azimuth propulsion product line has been developed as demand grows for extra highly effective and maneuverable tugs, with elevated bollard pull for ship help and harbor operations. The strong and hydrodynamically environment friendly propulsors are designed to adapt to altering configurations and versatile operations with mechanical, hybrid or electrical prime movers, whereas specializing in simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

The contract with Med Marine for the 2 harbor tugs consists of 4 SP 175 T propulsion models. They have 1.80 meter diameter propellers in nozzles and are rated at 1,080 kW per unit to ship 35 tons bollard pull. Delivery is scheduled for January 2023.
