Offshore shipbuilder VARD says it has lands new contracts for the design and development of two offshore subsea development vessels for first-time buyer Topaz Energy and Marine for $100 million.

According to VARD, the vessels shall be developed for crane operations and lightweight subsea development with intervention duties, measuring a complete size of 98.1 meters with a beam of 20 meters.

Delivery is scheduled from is scheduled from Vard Brattvaag in Norway in 3Q 2017 and 4Q 2017, with the hulls to be constructed at Vard Tulcea in Romania. The design of the vessels, shall be by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway.

The DP2 class vessels could have a 120-ton lively heave compensated offshore crane with the potential to succeed in working depths of 3000 meters. Subsea gear will be lowered down onto the seabed by means of a 7.2m x 7.2m moonpool or over the shipside. In addition, each vessels shall be ready for 2 Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs), that are deployed by way of Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) within the ship’s aspect. The vessels shall be constructed in response to the most recent Special Purpose Ship (SPS) rules, and may accommodate as much as 82 individuals in excessive normal cabins.
