Wärtsilä Dual Fuel Engines to Power New Tugs for Østensjø Rederi
Finnish engine producer Wärtsilä studies at this time three new escort tugs below development for Norwegian tug operator Østensjø Rederi will function their firm’s dual-fuel (DF) engines built-in with a personalized gasoline storage and provide system.
The tugs have been designed by Vancouver-based naval structure agency Robert Allan Ltd and have two 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines which is able to allow as much as 100 tons of bollard pull capability in addition to Wärtsilä’s distinctive LNGPac gasoline system – a completely built-in gasoline dealing with system and the Wärtsilä Gas Valve Unit (GVU).
“These are trend setting tugs in that they provide environmental sustainability through the use of LNG fuel,” says Mr Carl Johan Amundsen, Project Manager at Østensjø Rederi.
The order for the tugs comes on the again of a 15-year contract that Østensjø Rederi signed with Statoil final yr to assist operations on the Melkøya terminal close to Hammerfest, Norway. The contract commences in early 2017.
The shipyard has not been chosen but, based on Wärtsilä.
