Finnish know-how group Wärtsilä experiences it’s going to provide the engines for a brand new Canadian Coast Guard Polar Icebreaker being designed and constructed at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards.
The 158 meter-long multi-mission Polar Icebreaker will function underneath PC2 situations with 4 16-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 31 engines, delivering 47 MW of energy. The engines shall be fitted with selective catalytic discount (SCR) programs for IMO Tier III environmental compliance. Wärtsilä can even provide the middle shaft line with a stainless-steel ice-class propeller, in addition to Wärtsilä’s NACOS Platinum navigation system.
Wärtsilä stated it booked the order in Q3 2023 and famous it’s scheduled to ship the tools to the shipyard in 2025.
When constructed, the brand new vessel would be the Canadian Coast Guard’s largest icebreaker and can change ‘CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent’, which is because of retire on the finish of the last decade after 60 years of service.
