The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued the ultimate air high quality allow for Dominion Energy’s 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) mission positioned off the coast of Virginia Beach within the United States.

Issued on April 9 following a 30-day public remark interval, the allow authorizes the development and operation of the most important offshore wind mission within the U.S. and can characteristic as much as 176 wind generators positioned 26 to 38 nautical miles from the coast.

The allow is the eleventh and last federal allow required to start offshore development, which is ready to begin in May 2024 with the set up of monopiles for the mission, in keeping with Dominion Energy.

Once full, the authorized mission will generate roughly 2,640 MW of renewable power, sufficient to energy 660,000 houses, and make vital contributions towards the Biden-Harris administration’s aim of producing 30 gigawatts of fresh, considerable power from offshore wind by 2030.

“To have the largest offshore wind project right here in the Mid-Atlantic is both a privilege and a responsibility – and we take our role in enabling clean energy initiatives very seriously.

“This project will generate enough renewable energy to power nearly five times as many homes as there are in Richmond – all done with the environment and communities front of mind,” stated EPA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Adam Ortiz.

The allow contains necessities such because the prevention of serious deterioration (PSD) allowing program and relevant Virginia Department of Environmental Quality necessities that regulate air pollution from the development and operation of the wind farm, together with these from the vessels used to assemble and help the mission.

EPA coordinated its assessment of this allow in live performance with different federal businesses, such because the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).

As reported earlier, DEME’s Orion DP3 set up vessel is at present on its solution to United States to organize for the set up of 176 monopiles as a part of the CVOW mission.

The vessel is scheduled to reach in Virginia’s Port of Norfolk in late April.
