JUNE 30, 2014 — Italian media report that the Costa Concordia might be scrapped in Genoa. Though the formal authorities approval wanted has not but been given, Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi mentioned right now that he may affirm that the cruise ship might be scrapped “in an Italian port.”
According to Il Sole 24 Ore, Carnival Corporation subsidiary Costa Crociere has chosen the consortium consisting of oil service firm Saipem and Genoa-based corporations Mariotti and San Giorgio.
It added that Costa had determined to start the fragile operation to refloat the vessel on July 20.
Meantime, set up of the 15 sponsons wanted to refloat the vessel continues. Earlier this week, six had been put in, two extra have been set for set up and one was present process restore in Genoa.
