Enterprise Products Partners mentioned on Tuesday it had obtained a deepwater port license for its Sea Port Oil Terminal (SPOT) within the Gulf of Mexico from an company of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The challenge, situated close to Freeport, Texas, would turn out to be the most important offshore oil export terminal within the U.S. after completion with a capability to load two supertankers at a time and export 2 million barrels of crude oil per day.
“The receipt of the license is the most significant milestone to date in the development and commercialization of SPOT,” mentioned AJ Teague, co-chief govt officer of Enterprise’s normal associate.
The firm had earlier mentioned it expects to get the license within the first quarter and begin operations in 2027.
In January, environmental teams had sued U.S. to overturn the approval for the challenge, saying it might increase oil manufacturing and enhance emissions.
