Offshore set up agency DEME Offshore stated Tuesday it had put in the roughly 3,000 ton offshore substation for the Vineyard Wind 1 mission – the primary commercial-scale offshore wind farm within the United States.
“The installation of the offshore substation, a first in the US, took place after months of preparation with collaboration and dedication of all partners involved in the construction of the Vineyard Wind offshore wind project, including skilled union labor from the Massachusetts Building Trades,” DEME Offshore stated.

The offshore substation serves to gather the generated electrical energy from the wind generators and sends the facility via an export cable and into the regional electrical energy grid.
“DEME’s team continues the installation of the 62 wind turbines, a campaign that kicked off back in May 2023,” DEME Offshore stated.
Once accomplished, the 800 MW Vineyard wind farm will generate electrical energy for greater than 400,000 properties and companies within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” DEME Offshore stated.
The set up of the primary monopiles and transition items for the Vineyard Wind 1 mission began in June 2023.
