The Unified Command (USCG, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Gallagher Marine Systems) working to take away the capsized automotive provider Golden Ray from St. Simons Sound, Georgia, efficiently accomplished the elimination of the rudder and propeller from the ship on December 20. Crews labored over the previous week to finish the operation which was hampered by antagonistic climate situations at instances.
The elimination of roughly 130 tons of weight will assist scale back stresses to the hull of the wreck.
Portions of the ship that have been eliminated are being donated to the State of Georgia to be used as synthetic reefs in areas designated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
