MARCH 10, 2017 — The 3,171 dwt Netherlands-flagged basic cargo ship Skagern has run aground within the Gota River southwest of the locks in Trollhättan, Sweden.
The Swedish Maritime Administration studies that the grounding occurred at 07:25 on Thursday morning following technical issues on board.
Eight folks have been on board and no accidents are reported. The ship is loaded with lumber / wooden merchandise and was on its option to Hull within the U.Ok. There are not any harmful items on board.
The ship has now been secured to the shore and is taken into account secure.
There is a small quantity of water in a small ballast tank within the bow. Divers inspected the hull on Thursday and situated a small crack which might be the reason for the leak within the ballast tank.
Local police boarded the vessel to conduct routine sobriety checks and at this stage don’t suspect any fallacious doing.
Salvage efforts are tentatively set to start Saturday, however the ship must be emptied of cargo previous to being moved.
The channel is now briefly closed to site visitors. The Swedish Maritime Administration says the site visitors stoppage will final for every week from Friday morning and had been scheduled earlier to permit for civil works in Gothenburg.
