The U.S. Coast Guard eleventh District experiences {that a} Unified Command has coordinated the secure switch of the NYK Delphinus to the Port of Oakland.
As we reported earlier, the 4,888 TEU, 2007-built, Liberian-flagged NYK Line vessel was taken below tow after the Unified Command responded to a May 14 report of an engineroom hearth.
The NYK Delphinus arrived at Oakland Terminal Berth 22 at roughly 7 p.m., Monday.
Earlier, firefighting groups had boarded the Delphinus Sunday night, verified the engine room hearth was extinguished, and continued hourly rounds to observe temperatures. Marine surveyors and a marine chemist boarded the ship Monday morning. The chemist decided areas had been secure for entry and the surveyors inspected the structural integrity of the vessel.
The surveyors deemed the ship seaworthy. The tugboats Patricia Ann, Revolution, Independence, Jamie Ann, and Delta Lindsay then accomplished the Unified Command NOAA-approved tow of the Delphinus to the Port of Oakland.
