Jack-Up Collapses at Maersk-Operated Al Shaheen Field Off Qatar
A jack-up barge was badly broken this week after it collapsed offshore Qatar on the Maersk Oil-operated Al Shaheen discipline within the Persian Gulf.
Gulf International Services mentioned Tuesday that the accident occurred on July fifth and concerned its 2014-delivered jack-up barge “Rumailah”. The accident has been described as “punch-through incident”, which left the vessel tilting to at least one facet and partially submerged.
Photos of the jack-up revealed by the Norwegian news website Aftenbladet.no present rig partially submerged in water with a number of lifeboats surrounding vessel.
No accidents had been reported.
The Rumailah is owned and operated by Gulf Drilling International, a subsidiary of Gulf International Services (GIS) and the most important oilfield service firm in Qatar.
Maersk Oil has been operator of the Al Shaheen discipline since 1992. In May, state-owned Qatar Petroleum invited worldwide oil corporations to compete to function and develop the sector past mid-2017, when Maersk Oil’s present 25-year manufacturing sharing settlement with Qatar Petroleum ends.
The oilfield is situated roughly 50 miles off Qatar’s coast and at the moment produces round 300,000 barrels per day, roughly 40% of Qatar’s day by day oil manufacturing.
Repairs of the jack-up will take “several months”, in line with media experiences, and can happen on the Nakilat yard in Qatar.
