Neste is partnering with PTL Marine to offer Neste MY Renewable Diesel to the marine sector throughout the State of California.

California’s Commercial Harbor Craft (CHC) regulation, established by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), took impact on January 1, 2023. This regulation requires industrial harbor craft vessels within the state to make use of renewable diesel (additionally identified domestically as R99 or R100) as a substitute of ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), to restrict emissions resembling particulate matter and nitrogen oxides for vessels working within the state’s ports and close to the coast. The regulation applies to using on-water diesel fuels in California harbors, ports, navigable waterways, marinas and marine navigation districts.

“Our partnership with PTL Marine demonstrates renewable diesel’s wide range of applications in the heavy-duty sectors,” says Carrie Song, Vice President, Renewable Road Transportation, Americas at Neste. “We are excited to see California actively encouraging the use of renewable diesel outside of road transportation to reduce emissions, especially from older engines. With strategic partners like PTL Marine, we look forward to helping California’s marine industry have easier access to this more sustainable alternative.”

Renewable diesel is taken into account an instantly obtainable answer to cut back greenhouse fuel (GHG) emissions. Made from sustainably-sourced, 100% renewable uncooked supplies, using Neste MY Renewable Diesel may end up in as much as 75% lowered GHG emissions over its life cycle in comparison with fossil diesel, the corporate stated.

Since Neste MY Renewable Diesel has the same chemical composition to fossil diesel, it may be used as a drop-in answer in all diesel-powered vessels with out investments into new car fleets, modifications to the engines or the gasoline distribution infrastructure. It additionally delivers robust efficiency and meets the entire CARB necessities, together with a flash level of 140ºF or better, Neste added.

PTL Marine can ship Neste MY Renewable Diesel to prospects with three modes of supply – truck to the vessel, dockside providers, and barge to the vessel. These varied supply modes allow a spread of harbor craft, from small ferries to massive industrial fishing boats, in addition to offshore working boats and huge cargo ships to simply entry renewable gasoline.

“We are pleased to be working alongside Neste to deliver a high-quality, reliable supply of renewable diesel for our west coast customers,” says Steven Taylor, Business Development Manager, PTL Marine. “Partnering with a company that shares our values and embodies our commitment to innovation makes this an exciting partnership.”

Neste, which has been supplying renewable diesel to California since 2016, stated it now has an annual manufacturing capability of 1.14 billion gallons (3.3 million tons) of renewable merchandise globally. The manufacturing capability will additional improve to 1.9 billion gallons (5.5 million tons) in early 2024 because of the ramp-up of manufacturing at Neste’s expanded refinery in Singapore and the corporate’s joint operation with Marathon Petroleum in Martinez, Calif.
