A French consortium is planning to place a multi-service energy barge into operation within the Port of Rouen that might provide power and hydrogen to ships throughout port calls, enabling cold-ironing and reducing down on emissions.
Partners within the mission are Améthyste, ArianeGroup, Cetim, Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy), Rubis Terminal and Sofresid Engineering
Called the Elementa H2, the facility barge would combine a multi-MW hydrogen gasoline cell system manufactured in France by HDF Energy and a high-pressure inexperienced hydrogen storage system.
SAIPEM subsidiary Sofresid Engineering, which in 2019 gained an environmental award for its Elementa LNG energy barge idea, is to hold out the structure and the combination of the gear of the barge. The hydrogen bunkering functionality? That, in a way, truly shall be rocket science, drawing on the experience of ArianeGroup.
“With more than 40 years of experience with Ariane rockets, whose onboard systems and infrastructures use liquid hydrogen, ArianeGroup will support the evolution of the Elemanta concept towards higher power applications and an additional bunkering service,” says Arnaud Hibert, hydrogen know-how gross sales supervisor at Ariane Group.
The companions’ goal is to standardize and replicate the facility barge answer, with greater energy ranges, in the primary European ports, which might thus turn out to be a part of future main hydrogen hub initiatives.
