Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), NYK Group’s Asahi Shipping, and Kobe Steel have introduced a profitable trial run of biofuels on a voyage between Japan and Australia.
The firms equipped biofuel by way of ship-to-ship switch to the majority provider Sunrise Serenity on the port of Kobe in Japan. The vessel was equipped with biofuel by Toyota Tsusho Marine Fuels Corporation after which sailed to the port of Newcastle, Australia.
The vessel is operated and managed by Asahi Shipping and collectively owned by NYK and Asahi Shipping.
The three firms anticipate the check voyage will contribute to increasing the biofuel provide chain within the Japan’s Kansai and Setouchi areas.
