WindWings might be put in on Berge Olympus in 2023.

Singapore-based Berge Bulk is to retrofit the 210,000 dwt, 2018-built bulk service Berge Olympus with 4 BARTech WindWings by Yara Marine Technologies.

The giant, strong wing sails will measure as much as 50 meters in top and might be able to decreasing CO2 emissions by as a lot as 30% by means of a mixture of wind propulsion and route optimization. By doing so, Berge Bulk goals to take a significant step in helping the broader trade in reaching its emission targets for 2050.

Evaluating this groundbreaking technology, the estimated impact on reducing emissions can be at least as significant as transitional fuels. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with BAR Tech and Yara Marine to install the first WindWings onboard Berge Olympus and for the optimization needed when deploying such innovative technologies.”

WindWings might be put in on board Berge Bulk’s vessel within the second quarter of 2023.
